11/20/2009 - DeSales 24, Watterson 10 (Regional Final)
DeSales wins their 2nd straight Regional Final by defeating their rivals at Dublin Coffman. Junior quarterback Nick Gentile ran for 150 yards on 28 carries to lead the Stallions over Watterson. Running back Adam Griffin also added 89 yards on the ground and scored twice for a Stallions team that totaled 314 yards rushing on 57 carries (5.5 avg.). Trailing 7-3 at the half, DeSales took the opening possession of the 2nd half right down the field to take the lead, thanks to Gentile’s 2-yard touchdown run. Watterson would tie the game at 10, but Griffin’s two touchdowns were the difference. Head coach Ryan Wiggins improved to 5-0 vs. Watterson.
10/9/2009 - DeSales 17, Watterson 10
The Stallions rushing attack out-gained the Eagles 258-140 en route to winning their 3rd consecutive CCL championship. It was the first three-peat for DeSales since the 1996-98 seasons. Nick Gentile carried the ball 22 times for 160 yards. With Watterson up 10-7 to start the 3rd quater, DeSales fumbled the opening kickoff to begin the 2nd half. Deep in the Stallions’ territory, Eagles’ quarterback was intercepted by Chi Chi Ariguzo. A few plays later, Nick Gentile broke a 61-yard run that set up a 1-yard touchdown run by Adam Griffin, giving the Stallions the lead for good.

10/31/2008 - DeSales 20, Watterson 17 (Reg. Quarterfinal)
DeSales jumped out to a 20-3 lead after two quarters of football and held off Watterson to win their 9th Regional Quarterfinal game. Senior quarterback Thomas Gentile threw 2 touchdown passes and Josh Kusan ran for 135 yards and a touchdown for the Stallions. DeSales sophomore Chris Rock and senior Ike Ariguzo each had touchdown grabs. It was the first time in school history that DeSales had beaten Watterson in the playoffs and twice in one season.

10/3/2008 - DeSales 21, Watterson 17
DeSales successfully defended their 2007 CCL crown by defeating Watterson in come-from-behind fashion at Columbus Crew Stadium. After trailing 10-0 at halftime, the Stallions were fueled by a 42-yard run by Josh Kusan and the Thomas Gentile - Ike Ariguzo connection. Early in the 3rd quarter, Kusan’s big run help set up the a Gentile 2-yard touchdown pass to Ariguzo. The two seniors would hook up 6 times for 80 yards, most of it coming in the 2nd half. Junior running back Adam Griffin gave the Stallions the lead with a 22 yard run late in the 4th quarter. However, Watterson mounted a drive and took it deep into DeSales territory until two-way player Kusan intercepted a Pat Nester pass to seal it.

The Stallions, ranked number one in Division II, won their first CCL title since 2000 thanks to Jeff Walsh’s 34-yard run with 6 seconds remaining. Walsh broke free on the 4th-and-1 run and scored the game’s only touchdown. DeSales held the Eagles to just 41 yards of offense in the 2nd half. Adam Slupski intercepted a Mason Tackacs pass and returned it 65-yards with one minute remaining in the 2nd quarter to set up the Stallions‘ first score, a Mark Sherman 21-yard field goal.

The Eagles scored on their first possession, but the Stallions tied the game right before halftime with a 9-play drive that was capped-off by a one yard touchdown run by Travis Marter. Marter would finish with 65 yards rushing and 3 touchdowns to lead the Stallions, who beat Watterson for the fourth straight time in the regular season. DeSales out-gained Watterson 284-49 on the ground and picked off two Eagles’ passes. DeSales’ David Cook led the game with 110 yards rushing on 17 carries. Nick Preston contributed with 95 yards rushing for the Stallions, who would be ranked 3rd in the state in the week’s following Associated Press Division-III Poll.
10/11/1996 - DeSales 7, Watterson 3
In a defensive battle, the Stallions knocked off the state’s number one ranked team in Division-II and held an Eagles’ offense to a season-low 3 points. Watterson came into the game averaging 32 points per contest, but the Stallions defense held their rivals to 106 yards of total offense. Watterson still out-gained the Stallions on the night though - 106 to 88 - in a game that featured 13 punts and 14 first downs. On the 3rd play of the game, Mike Mayhew intercepted an Eagle pass that led to the game’s only touchdown - a Matt Stewart 1-yard run. The Eagles attempted to tie the score, moving the ball down to the DeSales 5 yard line late in the 3rd quarter. Watterson was called for illegal motion and the Stallions’ defense registered back-to-back sacks and the Eagles had to settle for a 28-yard field goal. Matt Stewart accounted for 67 of the 88 total yards for DeSales, who did not complete one pass in the game (0-for-4).
10/13/1995 - DeSales 14, Watterson 0
After a scoreless first half that featured 2 turnovers, the Stallions were led by Gary Berry and his 134 yards rushing. In the 2nd half, on a 3rd and 10, Berry ran for 33 yards, which set up a 28-yard touchdown pass from Joe Magliocca to Nick Dembski. Berry also added a 36-yard run for the 4th ranked Stallions. Adam Rader and Mike Fickell recorded 2 sacks each for a Stallions‘ defense that stopped three Watterson 4th down conversions in the 4th quarter. The ’95 defense had only given up 19 points through 7 games.
10/06/2000 - DeSales 28, Watterson 23
Tony Borghese ran for 183 yards with 2 touchdowns and Andrew Addington intercepted 4 passes, including returning one for a touchdown to lead DeSales to the 2000 CCL championship. Watterson scored on their first possession, but the Stallions answered on a 78-yard touchdown run by Borghese. With the game tied at 14 at the start of the 3rd quarter, Borghese broke another long run for a touchdown. Borghese took it 80 yards for the score in front of a huge crowd at Hagely Field. In the 1st minute of the 4th quarter, Mike Thornton kicked a 16-yard field goal to cut the DeSales lead to 21-17. On the ensuing possession Borghese tossed a 42-yard touchdown pass to Chris Boehm, but the Eagles were not done. Watterson quarterback Wally Theado, Borgehese’s future college roommate, hit Andrew Ferraro for a touchdown and a failed two-point conversion made it 28-23. The Eagles had one last chance to win it, but Addington picked off Theado and the Stallions grabbed their 6th win of the season.
10/15/1994 - DeSales 41, Watterson 6
DeSales remained perfect on the season, improving to 7-0, 1-0 in CCL play thanks to a stout defense that held Watterson to 87 total yards and forced 7 punts. The Stallions’ offense ran for 341 yards and did not punt one time. Quarterback Matt D’Orazio also threw for 120 yards and accounted for 115 yards on the ground with 2 touchdowns. The Purple and White jumped on the Eagles in the 2nd quarter, scoring 21 points. Brady Mangini rushed for 115 yards on 18 carries for the Stallions, who also received 58 yards rushing and a touchdown from Gary Berry. Patrick Rond also had a 26-yard touchdown reception for DeSales.
10/16/1998 - DeSales 14, Watterson 3
The Stallions won their 5th straight regular season game over Watterson - a school record - and captured the 1998 CCL championship. The Purple and White ran their record to 6-1 overall. On the first possession of the 3rd quarter, DeSales went on an 80-yard scoring drive and took a 7-3 lead on quarterback Aaron Powell’s 1-yard touchdown run. In the 4th quarter, after a Roy Williams’ 18-yard run on 4th and 6 to the Watterson 13 yard line, David Cook increased the Stallions‘ lead with a 1-yard touchdown run. The top two rushers for DeSales found most of their success on the ground in the 2nd half. Cook had 84 of his 96 yards rushing after halftime, while Powell ran for 82 yards in the 2nd half. Powell finished with 122 yards and a touchdown. Watterson was held to 90 yards of offense in the 2nd half, 84 of their total yards came on their last possession with the Stallions up 14-3.

Head Coach Ryan Wiggins captures his 4th CCL championship in 5 seasons as the Stallions ride senior running back to Warren Ball to victory. Ball carried the ball a career high 44 times for 195 yards and 2 touchdowns. In his previous 3 games against the Eagles, Ball had a combined 41 attempts. With the Stallions up 20-14 in the 4th quarter, senior lineman Ja’Mezz McKinney sacked Austin Greene in the endzone for a safety. After recovering an onside kick, Anthony Ciammaichella kicked his 3rd field goal of the game. The Stallions jumped out to a 17-0 halftime lead after holding Watterson to just 49 yards of offense and one first down.
